How to become a volunteer:

Do you love farmers markets? Do you want to be a part of growing food access throughout Virginia? VAFMA is seeking dedicated volunteers to help grow our outreach and keep VAFMA going. VAFMA is currently an all-volunteer organization and there is no short demand for volunteers. We have many opportunities for you to get involved,

Volunteers can participate in one of several committees:

  • Membership (Recruiting, Development)
  • PR/Marketing (Website, Communication, Outreach, Social Media)
  • Programs (EBT/SNAP, Market Management, etc.)
  • Conference (Planning, Marketing, Recruiting, & at Conference)
  • Governance (Strategic Planning, 501(c)(3) Management)
  • Fundraising & Development (Sponsorship, Donation, Funding Development)
  • Budget (Finance Planning & Management)

Whether you can commit a lot of time or just a little, there are many different ways to contribute and every little bit helps make a big difference.

Are you interested in contributing toward our collective impact and support to farmers markets across the Commonwealth?

The VAFMA Board of Directors has several openings to serve for the 2018-2020 term. Positions include:

  • President
  • Treasurer
  • Secretary
  • Blue Ridge Region
  • NOVA Region
  • Shenandoah Region **
  • Southwest Region **
  • Seeking for Central **

If you are interested in being nominated OR know someone you would like to nominate, please email Emilie Tydings, Interim President, president@vafma.org.

Nominees will be contacted by our board prior the Annual Meeting in November to confirm their nomination acceptance. Then we will vote in new Board members at the Annual Membership Meeting in November at the annual conference.

If you are interested, we encourage you to review the descriptions for each board position and consider your ability to be involved on the board, as a regional leader, or as a committee member. Ideal candidates are those who have been a farmers market manager and/or have worked with farmers markets and have general knowledge of the challenges farmers markets and managers face growing and sustaining their markets. Working on the VAFMA Board is a rewarding effort, but one that takes passion, patience, and perseverance. If one of these positions is calling for you, please let us know!!
